River-liming

We went at a river called Caure today. I just got back home from interviews and shit and Nkoummeh called me telling me that I have to run to the supermarket because we go liming. And I was sooooo busted. We entered a van like taxi-maxis and we climbed up a mountain. We reached a point where the river was visible, we cooked chilly food (my God how did I eat that?.... no being funny now,, it was good), we swimmed, we limed cause we drank 4-5 bottles of rum! It was amazing guys.. eating that chilly, extra-spicy food and putting out the fire it was causing me with rum and sprite. Ohhh... right now I listen to a song that reminds me an ex-gf. Whatever, whatever.. ((y que jamas encotraras en el calor de otro beso..)) haha
After getting drunk we drove back home and we kept on liming. Driving back equals a van full of drunk Trinidadians and a white guy trying to restrain them.. well not really much. Singing, beating a Caribbean rhythm with empty bottles and pots and so on. Then in house we were discussing with "Magic", Lewis, Dion, Petrona, Nkoummeh and others. On Friday we meet again.. The funny thing was that all of these guys --except me being white, Nkoummeh and Petrona being black-- were Indians. And in the riverplace we met even more Indians. Hehe... right now I am thinking of Didi and Janine in India.. hehehe! You know.. Bollywood music and discussions about Visnu and Siva. Jesus Christ! I will roll one more jay jay. Oh.. BTW jays here are toooooooo cheap. What I buy in Holland for 10 euros i buy here for one! Whatever, whatever, ((... baile me, enamorado como tu, ye alabina ala tu, ya le bibe tu welly welly habru salama .. nice songs!))

Research is going well since I already made 4 interviews. This means that I have to make 3-4 more. I ll try the best. Ya le le Trini lala Trinadada kosma yo me vay... allebo!! Today I interviewed a white guy, a Catholic Indian girl who loves Greece and I ate twice in KFC! My God Im gonna be genetically modified. But their KFC are soooo nice! Spicy nice!

In Greece the moderate right wing party won the elections and election still go on in Sierra Leone.. thinking of Maite! BTW now I am listening to Schuyler's favorite Balkan song.. Bubamara from "white cat, black cat" a nice movie I had watched before, brought to Schuy and me by Maite.

And a message for Dalia
Habibi, ya nour el ain,
Ya saakin khayali.
Aashek bakali sneen,
Wala ghayraak fibali.
Nice song huh???

Kisses babes! "Papa dinks hem familia" as Trinidadians would say.

PS From now on I will be listening only rembetika music! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvIQ90utR5g

The Preacher

Today I talk about Nkourmmeh (spelled as Enkouma), the owner of the house I live in and my only friend here. I met him through an ad. "2500$ TT (about 300 euro), twostores house with high speed internet connection, Tunapuna Macoye area". I called him, he told me how to reach him with taxi-maxi. He is an African descentant Trinidadian, about 40 years old (although he looks quite younger) single and cool. He showed me around, he introduced me to his friends and we wined and limed together in parties. This happens every weekend, while the rest of the days he just comes here in my place always with a good rum or puncheon in hand and we discuss about everything. On how nice time I had with you guys in Amsterdam to if the UFOs exist or not. But his favorite subject is Jesus Christ. Although he was never a preacher he acts as one. But he is amazing cause he believes so strong in what he says and then he has a funny way of laying out his thoughts. After 2-3 puncheons he really rocks and for me everything is funny! He has this nice habit of using 3 words constantly. He makes sentences out of these words which are actually nonsense or he just attaches these words in the begining, middle or end of each period.
"Now, watch me!" "Listen!" "Whatever, whatever, whatever" all nicely spoken with an afro-trini accent. We laugh a lot..
On Friday we go lime with Nkourmmeh, plus a Russian girl and a Peruvian guy who speaks no word in english. First we go to some club and then to some retirement-party of some Indo-trini old guy who has 6 daugthers of my age, in a place called Couva.
Laters!

Lime in Trinidad

Hoi hoi!
Here is Tunapuna village right in the heart of the land of Trinidad!
I live in a cute house with wireless and cable internet. This is the most important! Internet.
Criminality here runs high, although not in the area I m living in.
I became friends with the owner of the house, an African guy who enjoys liming.
Liming here means partying. He is showing me around, new bars, introduces me to people and
helps me with how to deal with the Trinidadian everyday life.

Here is hot! We have a tropical storm everyday and this makes the things even worse.
A lot of humidity. But I dont care, it wasnt as bad as in Athens this summer.
Now that I said Athens I remembered all the fires and the catastrophy in my country..

They have some kind of beautiful amazing vans running the East-West Corridor Way. They call them "maxi-taxi" because they pick up people from the road as taxis normally do, but they wont take you home. They only run this specific itinerary and then u have to walk. They are maxi because 8-10 people can get in there. The most amazing thing about these taxis is the inside world of them. Usually the drivers stick pistures of their family all over the place. Not only their family... I've seen a photo of Bill Clinton in one of them, a Bob Marley (although this is more understandable). Also talismans, necklakes and everything a man's mind can think of. The music plays LOUD and the van is moving dangerously high-speed. These two in combination with the bad quality of the road give you the feeling of dancing, jumping, humping up and down. And when music is not loud, then starts the political conversations with alot of popular opinions in.

I will write about the research another time. Now I have to run to the University of West Indies to pick up some feedback from my local sv.
